What a timing belt job actually is.
It sounds like one part. On a lot of engines it’s the whole front of the motor, lined up to the tooth.
- Cam gearsTurn the camshafts, which open and close the valves in step with the pistons.
- Timing beltThe toothed belt that ties the top of the engine to the bottom. A wear item with a replacement interval.
- Water pumpDriven by the timing belt on engines like this one, so it’s usually replaced at the same time.
- Tensioner and idlersKeep the belt at the right tension and on the right path.
